[H-GEN] Modules under RedHat

Okay, I've had enough punishment.

What do I need to sacrifice in order to get modules working
properly under RedHat 4.2? I've recompiled my kernel (many times)[1]
and done a

	make modules ; make modules_install

[and yes, I am getting rid of /lib/modules/* first...]

until my fingers bleed. But every time the fragging thing boots,
it says that all my modules have unresolved symbols. (The only
modules are IP masq helpers, for ftp, etc. and net device modules
to support them.)

For example:

example% modprobe ip_masq_ftp
[...]
register_ip_masq_app undefined
[...]
example% nm -u /usr/src/linux/vmlinux | grep "register_ip_masq_app"
example%

Now, the "-u" passed to nm says to print only undefined symbols.
Hence, if it doesn't say anything about "register..." then it must be
defined right?

What the hell is going on?

Offers to run me out a Debian CD-ROM in the next twenty minutes
cheerfully accepted. Flames about RedHat vs. Debian should go to
chat.

[1] : Since this is a 486-25, this many recompiles are **slow**.
