Me not being a chemist, my answer may not be 100% jargon correct,
[1] CFC's are highly volitile, etc will "boil" at room temperature, that
is why they are so good for cooling ;).
[2] CFC's cause an almost perpetual reaction with ozone( one CFC molecule
will destory many ozone molecules ), causing ozone to be broken down to
its basic oxygen, faster than the natural process can replish it. It is a
multi stage process, involing the chlorine and fluorine .... (my knowledge
doth runs out) ....
