Well once again intel has come through with the goods.
executing the opcode, 0xc8c70ff0
will result the lock up pentium / pentium MMX machines.
Implementing this in C is a trivial one liner.
Further, the instruction, a modified version of cmpxchg8b eax with a lock
prefix (or so they say) is not privileged and can be run by any user on
the system.
I'll leave the implications for this to the imagination of all those ISP's
running on Intel Pentiums...
Discussion can be found on comp.sys.intel under the threads
This code will lock up any P5 machine
and others.
