\begin{rant}[severe]

I swear that if I *ever* get my hands on the author of modprobe,
depmod, insmod, etc etc, then I will well and truly LART them
something *shocking*.

What possessed him (assuming male programmer) to:

 o Let people use *two* configuration filenames, which are
   functionally equivalent---I've yet to see the bit in the manpage
   that clears up which one is checked first;

 o Put in the *absolute worst* error messages possible---even most Dos
   stuff is better than the "Aborting" you get when you pass depmod
   the incorrect argument;

 o *And* write the worst manual page, and README file I *have* *ever*
   *seen*. Ever. Okay, okay, he might not speak English as a first
   language, but even a hard-core docofile like me balks at reading
   the mangled sentences contained therein.

If having modules was not so darn froody, then I'd bloody well do
without, mostly from sheer spite.

\end{rant}

Of course, I *could* solve all this myself, but I'm not up to hacking
into source that communicates so well with the kernel, and it would
probably mean usurping the current maintainer.

ObReasonWhySoBruceDoesn'tHitMeWithABigStick:

I'm tired. Modprobe has been known to fuck me around for hours when I
only had a little computer, and formatting manpages took forever. I
just watched /Braveheart/.  :)

("FREEDOM!")
