This is turning into a bit of a mini-HOWTO:

I finally got a sort of connection going between my Network and the
real world using the Telstra cable modem. It's not a very good system
and my first and most important advice is DON'T DO THIS!

I have spoken to reasonably high level technical staff at both Optus
and Telstra, installed the Telstra system myself and tested it, been
on site at an Optus Vision installation, and done a lot of other ground
work. OPTUS' SYSTEM IS MUCH MUCH MUCH BETTER THAN TELSTRA'S SYSTEM.
DO NOT BUY TELSTRA'S SYSTEM. WAIT FOR OPTUS. That's the most important
thing I can say, which is why I'm shouting!

Summary: You need to have a second PC, running Windows 95. You
need to have a hub, and connect everything together using UTP.
You need to have a copy of WinProxy, and you use your 95 box as
a proxy server to your Linux box. Behind the Linux box you can
have a network, using the Linux box as a firewall & proxy server.
You need the absolute very latest Linux DCHP client (dhcpcd-0.65)
and you can get the cable modem to assign separate addresses to
your Linux box and your Windows 95 box running off the same hub
(you must use UTP with a hub and not co-ax).

It's very ugly.

If you really have to do this using Foxtel/Telstra right here right now,
read the full details:
