An interesting new thread, perhaps:

Imagine you had a lot of money to build a Linux server, with an
emphasis on performance and stablity.  What would you choose?  SMP or
not?  Intel processors, Cyrix, or something exotic like an Alpha?
SCSI or EIDE?  Lots of spindles, or a single big disk?
