[H-GEN] screen colours ????

this is a bit embarassing :-)

while pulling some cables hither and thither I dislodged the serial 
mouse from the back of my RedHat Linux box....
and now all the text is in yellow 
	how yellow ?
	even the white bits are yellow

so I pulled out the mouse, stuck it back in, wiggled it about,
did it all again facing west
on one foot
killed and restarted gpm (getting desperate)

then it went back to normal (white text on black screen)....
now it's back to yellow
I have no idea why
Can some kind soul offer a suggestion ?
it's starting to make me nauseous
