Good afternoon.
As of this morning, HUMBUG was booked into room 430 in the Joyce Ackroyd
building on St Lucia campus, from 3pm on alternate Saturdays up to and
including the first of July, 2017. This booking is auspiced by the UQ
Business School's information services team (which I belong to), whose
manager is Rachael Birks, and who approved the arrangement.
HUMBUG is now booked in for the Saturdays on 15 July, 29 July, 12 August,
26 August, 9 September, 23 September, 7 October, 21 October, 4 November, 18
November, 2 December, 16 December, and 30 December 2017. I am not aware of
any conflicts with marking or teaching engagements on those Saturdays at
this time, but that is likely because our academics are idiosyncratic about
booking that far ahead. Arrangements for room keys and network access via
the room's ports remain, as far as I know, unchanged.
The UQ Business School's position on the use of room 430 remains (email
quoted from our Allanah Yu, our school manager, as of 2 November 2016):
"Dear Horatio
I have been liaising with the BEL Faculty’s Operations Officer & Safety
Coordinator, and would like to propose the following terms of use for
HUMBUG to continue holding their meetings in Joyce Ackroyd room 430.
Please let me know if HUMBUG would be willing to adhere to the following
terms of use:
All members to:
· complete an occupational health and safety induction (Chris Pye
will provide you with the details)
· conduct themselves in a professional manner whilst undertaking all
activities on University of Queensland premises
· respect University property and the facilities, such as computing
resources, which the University provides to support teaching and learning
· report any faults or concerns with University property and
facilities to the School Manager as soon as possible
· comply at all times with the University’s occupational health and
safety requirements
Provide a certificate of currency (proving liability insurance should an
incident occur)
Kind regards,
Allanah"
The OH&S induction consisted of me ambushing whatever senior members were
handy at the next HUMBUG meeting I could get to, and running them through
the attached documents, which are the shortest form of induction UQ offers.
A filled-out copy of the induction checklist signed by whichever committee
member was present has since been lodged with the school's operations team,
so that has been formalised - I would appreciate it if any new room-openers
since that time would also be made aware of the information. I was advised
at the time of the OH&S induction by the committee member in attendance
that HUMBUG is examining options for sourcing liability insurance. Rachael
is aware of all of the above.
*After Friday the 5th of May 2017 I will be resigning from my position with
the University. *I have asked my colleague Sarah Walters (nee Kelly), whom
I have cc:'d on this email, to take over as your liaison with UQBS
Information Services in respect of this matter.
Nevertheless, if there anything about the above that needs discussion, you
should get back to me or Sarah before COB Friday. I will attempt to make
the upcoming HUMBUG meeting, or the one after that, to confirm all of the
above in person.
Cheers,
Horatio
