For the record, unattended email addresses and staff on holidays meant
Griffith could not organise students in time for this years Pycon.
Maybe next year.

Dear Russell,
Thank you for your email. I do apologise for the email address issue
causing us to miss this offer in time.
For future reference, please could you contact Ms Kristin Corley on Ph:

or email: k.corley at griffith.edu.au. Kristin manages the marketing/events
for
the school and has contact with our students at both Nathan and Gold
Coast Campuses.

This year the Australian Python (the computer language)
Conference is
being held in Brisbane, at the BCEC.

It is being organised primarily by members of Humbug, the local
open
source group.
In order to raise awareness of Open Source and Python in
particular
Humbug has decided to sponsor 2 students from each of the 3
Universities
in Brisbane (ie, 6 students in total).
At $50 the student tickets are already subsidised by the
conference, but
this means 6 students can attend the conference and the sprint
days for
free. (During the sprints Python is worked on under the
auspices of a
core Python developer. Superficially, the idea is to close as
many
tickets as possible. The real motivation is to introduce people
to
inner workings of open source, in the hope they might
contribute.)
We are hoping staff of classes that use Python could announce
Pycon, and
select two suitable students for us. Our preference is the two
people
who are most likely to stimulated by an Open Source conference
specialising in Python. In particular, their current abilities
aren't a
consideration.
Can you let me know if this is possible. If so, the procedure
is:
- The students register for Pycon 2014 in the normal way. (They
can
register for any kind of ticket.)
- You tell me the names of the two students you have selected by
replying to this email.
- I will send the students a voucher code, which will give them
a
$50 discount off the price of their ticket.

PS: If you are wondering why UQ isn't on the To: list, it is
because
they have already chosen their students.
