Hi Guys,
We are a not for profit starting up in the city, and would like to
develop some programs and projects over the next few years in Brisbane.
We would like to invite any interested parties to forward proposals or
ideas, especially regarding implementation & projects with practical
results for the community.
We can also offer some space and facilities to appropriate groups &
projects.
Current interest is:
Computing - Computer Bank Queensland, on site open source computer labs,
servers, hosting, rendering & torrent farm, augmented reality (AR)
Networking - WiFi Mesh Networking (Brismesh), Content distribution
(torrent, streaming etc..), Censorship/Privacy, AR
Open Source Software - Linux / Ubuntu User group base, Hackerspace,
Facilities Programs & support for Software developers & testing,
documentation &
publishing, commercial OS software implementation & support,
localisation into indigenous & other languages (OLPC, *nux etc..)
Open Source Hardware - Arduino, Open Moko, RepRap, OD Book Scanners &
other platforms - production facilities, open source FABLAB,
community exposure
access & training, OLPC program, also
Communication - VOIP, VOMesh (Mesh Potato, community Asterisk server)
local IRC server, voip for mobile phones & businesses, local wikipedia
mirrors, AR
Media & Content - Creative Commons & open source music, video & print,
Digitalisation of non-copyright books, user generated content - Indy
media site for Brisbane (again), user generated content in a zine,
newsletter or AR, Zines in general, also Audio & Video recording,
production & editing.
This is quite a list, we would like to partner & collaborate with those
interested or active in these fields.
We also aim to get funding & sponsorship for some of the above
activities, and could partner with appropriate institutions to share
resources & manpower.
