And you may be right. If you are, and if we approve him and he wrecks
havoc we will ban him and revert his changes. No real harm done. If you
are wrong and we don't let him join, we have will of managed to piss of
a potential Humbug recruit, with no real way of fixing it.

That is why I think it better to let him join. In general I think it
best to err on the side of assuming a person wanting to join the wiki is
for real, and repairing the damage if that turns out to be wrong.

A few points:

1. The only reason to join the wiki is to change it. If you do that
whatever alias you join under will become public, as part of the change
history. Under those conditions, the idea that a wiki alias is somehow
private information is bizarre.

2. There is a fundamental difference between the AGM attendance list,
and a Wiki login. The AGM attendance list must be a real name, where as
a Wiki login is an alias. Thus whether a Wiki alias reveals anything
about the person using it is totally up to them. On the other hand, you
are forced to reveal your attendance at the AGM.

3. Although we agreed at the meeting to make the list private, it is
private to Humbug, not the Exec. Any Humbug member can ask to look at
that list. And of course it was a public meeting, in a public place.
People are free to say what they like about it - even publish pictures
of it. The idea that person can do that, but the Humbug can't is
absurd.

Besides, I still can not fathom why anyone would want that list to be
private. Surely no one is actually worried the world knows they are a
Humbug member ?!?!? As for Clinton wanting it - I think this proves he
has completely lost his bloody marbles. Not that there was much doubt
before, but for gods sake he posts to general which is a public list, he
is on the Exec which by definition is public knowledge, and since he was
elected to the AGM the odds are very high he was there.

None of this makes any sense.

4. Finally, as I said at the meeting a persons name in and of itself
isn't private information. Anybody is free to use your name without
asking - including the Newpapers and TV. I did of course make this very
point at the Exec meeting.
